Rum can be produced from molasses, sugarcane juice, or sugarcane syrup, whereas Cachaça is made exclusively from fresh sugarcane juice. While Rum is distilled worldwide, Cachaça must be produced in Brazil and comply with strict production standards. When aged, barrels made from Brazilian woods impart unique characteristics that further distinguish Cachaça.
