What is Rum?

Rum is a spirit produced from sugarcane distillates such as molasses, sugarcane juice, or sugarcane syrup. The base ingredient is fermented to create a wash, which is then distilled in a pot or column still.

The resulting liquid may be aged in oak barrels to develop a unique combination of flavours, colours, and characteristics. Under European regulations, Rum must be bottled at a minimum of 37.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). In the United States, the minimum is 40% ABV, with certain high-proof varieties reaching up to 75% ABV.
